On Sullivan’s Island in South Carolina, there’s a big hill that my mom used to take us to. We’d bring pieces of cardboard and use them to sit on and slide down the hill. One side of the hill was covered by a bamboo forest and my favorite thing was to go exploring through it. As a kid, it all seemed so huge and mysterious to me as I looked up and saw the sun filter through the leaves, listening to the gently musical knocking of the bamboo shafts and leaves rustling in the wind.
I went back there 15 years later and took this picture. It was just as I had remembered.
